Lessons

Lessons at Walker Farms begin with basic horse handling and safety, and can progress up through the intermediate levels of dressage, jumping and pleasure riding. Riders from the age of eight on up are welcome!

Meet The Instructor

Rachael Walker

For over 10 years I have been teaching lessons, mostly in english disciplines. My riding background begins with 4-H and goes through my years on the hunt seat team at UWRF and into my current loves of dressage, jumping and eventing. I teach students in many disciplines, in many levels of riding, and I also currently coach the IHSA team at UWRF. My students have various riding goals; some simply want to become more effective riders at home, while others travel to shows throughout the summer.

Safety is always the primary consideration, especially in lessons with children. Walker Farms has two wonderful lesson horses that are very experienced in teaching riders, from the very first lesson through more advanced dressage and jumping techniques. Every rider will learn how to halter, lead, groom and tack up a horse, and will be responsible for all of these things at each lesson. I strive to create horsemen and women, not simply mechanical riders.

Meet The Lesson Horses

Cressida

Cressie is a super teacher. She knows dressage and jumping and has taught hundreds of lessons and camps. Many riders have started riding on Cressie, and more advanced riders have learned how to jump or execute dressage movements on her. She is quiet and kind and intelligent. Cressie is a spry 24 years old, and she is definitely a barn favorite!

Dillon

Dillon came to Walker Farms after an illustrious dressage career. He is trained through First Level and knows some Second Level movements. Dillon also knows how to jump, and is a lofty, careful jumper. However, his favorite lessons to teach are beginners. Dillon has taught many different riders the basics of steering, posting, and making correct ring figures. Riders can learn things like leg yielding, gymnastic jumping, and canter departs from Dillon, who is 22 years old.

Tate

Tate came to Walker Farms from the MN Hooved Animal Rescue this fall. She is a 7-year-old OTTB, and has a lovely sweeping hunter stride. Although not for beginning riders, Tate is willing and smart, and is currently half-leased through the winter and in training to put on some muscle.
