Our Local Fauna

Broiler Chickens

Each year George and I raise broiler chickens. We raise our chickens on non-medicated, non-hormone feed. This past year we began pasturing them. This benefits the chickens, as they are outside on a 12-hour pasture rotation and can graze at liberty, but with the added protection of a portable chicken house to keep them safe from foxes, weasels, tomcats, neighbor dogs, etc. It also benefits our horse pasture, as the chickens provide high-nitrogen waste that fertilizes the pasture so it grows up greener and more lush.

If you are interested in purchasing our grass-fed chickens please send us an e-mail! Once we know dates for 2010 we will be letting our customers know so that they can coordinate for pickup of the birds.

Goats

After many years of my begging, George broke down and bought two baby goats for my birthday this year. Although George is hopeful they will be of use for weed control in the pasture, right now they pretty much bounce around, look cute, and cuddle with anybody who gets too close! Their names are Ranger and Morelli, and they have quickly become the love of all my lesson students.
